About

Innovation Festival Kortrijk.

The Innovation Festival will have you under the spell of design, creativity and innovation. Everyone – young and old – will find themselves involved in this fascinating world. The challenge is to stimulate creativity and innovation and to attract undeveloped talent. Kortrijk and the region will be under the spell of design, creativity and innovation during the Innovation Festival, from 8 to 25 October 2010
Everyone – young and old – will find themselves involved in this fascinating world. It will be a “people festival”, with an international appeal. It will make use of the creative ideas of the residents of the Kortrijk region and Flanders, called on them to think up innovative concepts. Around 40 products of the 150 ideas will be realised and produced in the Fab Lab at the Howest Industrial Design Centre. During the Innovation Festival, every visitor will also be able to see the students who develop these ideas to new prototypes at work. The Innovation Festival (IF) forms part of the European project Pro Inno.   The cities participating in the project are as follows: IF Barcelona (October 2009), IF Milan (5-10 October 2010), IF Kortrijk (8-25 October 2010), IF Lisbon (29 November – 10 December 2010), IF Vilnius (2011) and IF Tallinn (2011). City Kortrijk is partner within the project and Designregio Kortrijk is coorganisator.

Open Design for sustainable innovation

In addition, there will also be an exhibition about “Yes! We’re open.” A vision on open design by Thomas Lommée at the meeting point where both the local population, visitors to the design biennial Interieur 2010 and the industry can learn about design as a thinking process. During the Innovation Festival, the question will be posed as to what can be expected over the coming years and how these technological rapids will change our lives. This new way of thinking about production and consumption demands information and experience. By means of an exhibition, lectures and workshops, we aim to introduce the new, creative “design thinking” to a broad public and to the companies in the most intelligible way possible. Alongside this, we also want to use the call to action to encourage people to be creative and to reflect.   In addition to the Thomas Lommée exhibition, the IF lab in IDC, architecture walks, etc. a number of workshops will take place in the IF Meeting point. Through these workshops we wish to immerse everyone from young to old in the world of ‘open innovation’ and to familiarise them with it. A wide range and extensive choice of ‘doing’ workshops plus learning and creativity workshops are on the agenda. Children can take part individually and in a school context in active workshops on energy management, waste processing, work in “BLUUB”, do an interactive city walk, etc. Young people can take part in Gamelabs, experiment with Rapid prototyping, etc. People with an interest and staff from companies will be attracted by a well-rounded offering of educational, informative workshops with testimonials from other companies, eminent national and international guest speakers… So there is something for everyone! This Innovation Festival is part of the programme under the Belgian Presidency of the EU.
